Premier Meets with EU Director for North Africa and the Middle East, EU Representative to Palestine

RAMALLAH, September 18, 2014 – (WAFA) – Premier Rami Hamdallah met Wednesday with the EU Director for North Africa and the Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq, Christian Berger, and the EU Representative to Palestine John Gatt-Rutter, said the Palestinian Government Media Center in a news brief.

Hamdallah commended the efforts exerted by the European Union to support the Palestinian cause and right and to maintain strong relations with the state of Palestine.

“The EU’s profound work with the Palestinian National Consensus Government will further result in more efforts to provide assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as well as the needed financial support for reconstructing the Strip,” stated Hamdallah.

He explained that such efforts would support the Palestinian cause and demonstrate strong relations between both parties towards ending the occupation and establishing the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem the sole capital.

The Prime Minister briefed the EU representatives on the latest developments concerning the ongoing preparations and reports submitted to the upcoming AHLC meeting in New York and to the reconstruction conference expected to take place in Egypt on the 12th of October.

Berger reaffirmed the EU commitment to support the National Consensus Government, stressing the importance of the government’s presence in the Gaza Strip to supervise the reconstruction process in coordinating with the United Nations organizations and the International community.
