Presidency Denies Reports Envoy to Syria Carried Letter

RAMALLAH, October 12, 2013 (WAFA) – The presidency denied Saturday a newspaper report claiming that an official Palestinian envoy to Damascus carried a message from the emir of Qatar to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

It described as “fabricated” a report in the Lebanese newspaper, al-Safir, which claimed that President Mahmoud Abbas’ envoy to Syria, Abbas Zaki, who was dispatched last week to Damascus to discuss the situation of the Palestinian refugees and camps in Syria, carried with him a letter from Sheikh Tamim of Qatar to al-Assad.

The paper claimed the letter was intended to improve the atmosphere with Damascus.

The presidency said in the statement that such reports only cause confusion in light of the tragic situation in the Arab world, particularly since the position of Abbas and leadership is non-intervention in internal Arab affairs, supporting the right of the people to decide their own future and to do whatever possible to ease the suffering of the Palestinian refugees in Syria.
