CAIRO, November 13, 2012 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas confirms that the date for voting on the resolution the Palestinian Authority will submit to the United Nations to become a non-member state will be on November the 29th.
He said, during a speech at the meeting of the Extraordinary Session of the Arab League Council for foreign ministers, “After discussions with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi, we agreed to submit the resolution on the 29th, which happens to be the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.”
Abbas reiterated the importance of negotiations saying that PA doesn’t want any clashes with either the United States or Israel. “If it is possible to start a dialogue or negotiations the day after the vote, we will be ready.”
He pointed out that Israel considers the Palestinian Territory a disputed land, and keeps building more settlements especially in East Jerusalem, while PA aims to protect the Palestinian Territory within the 1967 borders.
Abbas called on the Arab countries to support the Palestinian bid by using connections with other world countries to vote in favor of the resolution.
