Prisoners’ Ministry says Israel Maltreats and Tortures Gaza War Prisoners

RAMALLAH, August 12, 2014 (WAFA) – Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners Affairs said on Tuesday that the Israeli authorities have maltreated and tortured Palestinian prisoners captured during the recent Israeli ground offensive on Gaza.

Kareem Ajwa, an attorney with the ministry who visited prisoners from Gaza in Asqalan Prison, reported that Gazan prisoners were subjected to maltreatment and torture by the Israeli soldiers and special police forces.

Prisoners Momen Najjar, 33, and Khaleel Najjar, 37, from the village of Khuza’a to the east of Khan Younes, where Israeli army committed a massacre against its residents, told Ajwa they were arrested at midnight on the 23rd of July after forces demolished their homes; Israeli soldiers invaded the village, raided whats left of residents’ homes accompanied by sniffer dogs, and arrested every Palestinian male there and led them to Israeli military outposts.

The Gaza prisoners called upon all humanitarian and human rights organizations to follow up with the issue of Gaza prisoners who have been subject to sporadic rounds of rigorous investigation, torture and humiliation with no respect to their human rights.
