RAMALLAH, August 18, 2014 (WAFA) – Minister of Religious Affairs Yousef Ede’es warned, in a press release Monday, against Israeli attempts to take full control of the Ibrahimi Mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron.
The minister said Israel is “deliberately dividing the mosque” between Muslims and Jews, while it “imposes tight measures on the part left for Muslims” and forces worshipers to undergo “humiliating inspection” when entering the mosque.
Ede’es added that Israel is also seeking to prevent Muslims from entering the mosque by specifying the entry and exit times and the time of the call for prayers. Nevertheless, it allows Jewish settlers to enter the mosque most of the time.
The minister said further that the Israeli authorities are planning to deny entry for Muslims during the upcoming Jewish holidays – on August 25 and 26, September 30, October 12, 13, and 14, and on November 15, under flimsy pretexts.
“This is a blatant intervention in the freedom of worship that is guaranteed under all monotheistic religions and the relevant international laws,” said Ed’es, calling on Arabs and Muslims, as well as the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation and the UNESCO to immediately act to stop these Israeli violations and attempts to Judiaze the mosque.
