Settlers seize building in Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood

Settler organisations, heavily funded by American Jewish billionaires, have focused on Silwan and the Holy Basin as a means of cutting off the Old City from Palestinians and extending exclusive Israeli control.

JERUSALEM, January 8, 2017 (WAFA) – A group of Israeli settlers seized on Sunday a Palestinian-owned building in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, south of al-Aqsa Mosque compound, according to local sources.

The settlers, who belong to Elad, an extremist settler organization, were accompanied by police forces to seize the building that belongs to Hani Sarhan, a Palestinian from East Jerusalem who was in Jordan when his house was seized.

To be noted, settler organizations have recently been able to seize many buildings and homes in Silwan area and turning them into settlements outposts. Israeli authorities have also in recent years demolished some 88 houses in Silwan for the benefit of settlement expansion activities
