GAZA, July 20, 2014 (WAFA) – At least 410 Palestinians have been killed so far and thousands have been injured since the beginning of Israel’s offensive campaign on Gaza on July 8, including more than 50 innocent civilians who were killed today on Sunday in Shuja’iyya neighborhood to the east of Gaza city, according to medical statistics and media sources.
The Ministry of Health said that at least 60 Palestinians were killed, while more than 200 were injured during an Israeli ground invasion in Shuja’iyya neighborhood. It said that many casualties are still buried under the rubbles of houses that were bombed and destroyed as armored tanks indiscriminately targeted residents’ homes.
The fatalities in Shuja’iyya included 17 children, 14 women and four elderly, whereas the wounded, estimated at a total of 210, included 62 children, 32 women and 15 elderly, according to the ministry.
WAFA correspondent reported that Israeli forces are targeting ambulance and civil defense staff, heavily firing towards them in an attempt to prevent them from providing medical aid to the injured, making it difficult for them to reach and transfer the dozens of cases of injuries in Shuja’iyya and Tuffah neighborhoods.
Israeli armed tanks also prevent media outlets from arriving at the scene and target all journalists who try to enter the inflicted area of Shuja’iyya.
The fatalities in Shuja’iyya included two female children, including 14-year-old Heba al-Sheikh Khalil. The identity of the other child is still unknown.
Meanwhile, a family of four was also killed, including the father, Osama al-Hayya, his wife Hala Abu-Hein, and their two children Omama and Khalil after forces directly hit their house with a missile. Mohammad al-Hayya, brother of Osama al-Hayya, was also killed. Dozens were reported injured and transferred to hospital west of Gaza city for treatment.
Medic Foad al-Jaber was also killed when attempting to reach the battered neighborhood of Shja’iyya east of Gaza, while Journalist Khalid Hamad was also reported killed as he was covering the Israeli incursion and bombardment in the area.
In the meantime, five Palestinians were killed as warplanes hit al-Mawasi neighborhood in Rafah city, to the south of Gaza. The identities of three of them were identified as Ahmad Zanoun, 23, Suhaib Abu-For a, 22, and Hameed Abu-Fujo, 23.
Three brothers, Mohammad, 30, Hamza, 21, and Anas Muammar, 20, were also killed, while several others were seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house in Al-Jenaina neighborhood in Rafah.
Fahmi Abu-Isied, 29, also died of his injuries which he sustained in an earlier airstrike on the central Gaza Strip city of Deir el-Balah.
Israeli jet fighters further targeted the city of Rafah, killing 56-year-old Hosni al-Absi and injuring another one, who was transferred to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, the body of Mohammad Jundiyya, 38, was recovered from under the rubbles of his bombed and destroyed house in Shuja’iyya quarter east of Gaza.
A Palestinian, whose identity is still unknown, died of his wounds which he sustained during an Israeli strike that targeted hit Nusseirat refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip.
Ahmad Sada was also killed during clashes with Israeli forces to the east of Maghazi refugee camp, central Gaza.
Meanwhile, five people were reported injured, including one seriously, in an airstrike that targeted Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza city, according to WAFA correspondent, who said the camp as well as areas east of Gaza city and in northern Gaza strip are subjected to heavy Israeli artillery fire along with Shuja’iyya neighborhood.
